Hello parents and teachers:
FOSS offers a number of ways to get parents involved in their child’s science education. Download a copy of the Air and Weather Home/School Connection PDF in English or Spanish. To view or print the Home/School Connection PDF, you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in. Acrobat Reader is available free at https://www.adobe.com.
Inside the PDF you’ll find:
- Letter to Parents
The FOSS Air and Weather module includes two letters to parents: the first to tell you what your child will be doing in the investigations at school and to share ways that you can develop your child’s scientific interests at home and the second to help your child make observations in the night sky.
- Home/School Connections
There are many ways to extend your child’s science experiences at home and to have fun together. We have developed a Home/School Connection for four investigations in the Air and Weather Module. These require little or no materials from home.
- Investigation 1: Exploring Air—Students are asked to look at home for toys that use air in some way to work, or to invent one of their own.
- Investigation 2: Observing the Sky—Make a cloud window to observe cloud movement.
- Investigation 3: Wind Explorations—Students make whirligigs.
- Investigation 4: Looking for Change—Students are asked to finish the story about Harry (who was always wearing the wrong clothes for the weather conditions) by designing and drawing a picture of Harry's all-weather wardrobe.
