Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave in Kentucky formed in an area of karst topography. Carbonic acid formed by water and carbonic dioxide flows through and dissolves the limestone in the area to form the caves. Dissolved materials in the water are deposited as beautiful cave structures like stalactites and stalagmites.
