The seven circular dome-like hills dominate the eastern edge of Alpha Regio on Venus. The domes average 25 km (15 miles) in diameter with maximum heights of 750 meters (2475 feet) and probably formed when a thick lava erupted through the flat plains and flowed outward. These domes may be similar to volcanic domes on Earth. Another interpretation suggests that the lava pushed up beneath the surface but never erupted onto the plains.
