Details of Mercury's surface features are visible in this image taken during the MESSENGER mission's closest approach to the planet. In addition to craters as small as 400 meters (1,312 feet) one of the highest cliffs found on Mercury sweeps from the top center to the left side of the image. They had to have been formed by tremendous forces in Mercury's crust.
