La Cumbre volcano is the most active volcano in the Galapagos. Located on Fernandina Island, it rises 1,495 meters (4,905 feet) above sea level. Dark lava flows in the middle of the caldera erupted in 1991and have been partially coved by dark-green vegetation. This photo was taken by the Expedition 5 crew aboard the International Space Station.
